Murphy Votes to Fund Military

December 11, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released the following statement after voting for the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act Conference Report, the annual piece of legislation which funds the military.

"Though it was delayed for too long, Congress finally agreed on must-pass legislation to fund our great military. I proudly voted for it. Most importantly, the topline spending amount provides enough funding for our military to sufficiently maintain its competitive edge over our international adversaries like Russia and China," said Murphy.

"This year's military funding appropriately includes a 3.1 percent pay increase for our troops. If anyone deserves a raise, it's the brave men and women who serve and sacrifice so much for us each and every day. The authorization also provides $5.3 billion in emergency funding for military installations damaged by natural disasters, which includes Camp Lejeune here in eastern North Carolina. We are so blessed for the selfless men and women in our armed forces, especially the Marines in the Third District. It's an incredible honor to be an advocate for them in our nation's capital."
