Murphy Votes Against H.R. 1

March 3, 2021

Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1. Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released the following statement after voting against the bill:

"The fact that Speaker Pelosi reserved the first bill number in the 117th Congress for this piece of legislation tells you all you need to know her radical agenda. Her party wants to undermine the voting process in this nation in an attempt to create a one-party system of government," said Murphy. "Her misguided agenda to disrupt this nation's fair electoral process shows her single-mindedness in creating avenues for electoral fraud. The American people's priorities right now are getting healthy, getting our kids back to school, and getting our economy back on track not rigging elections.

"H.R. 1 – which should be referred to as the ‘For the Politicians Act' – funnels taxpayer dollars to incumbent candidates for their reelection campaigns, enables the federal government to control all aspects of our elections, and restricts voter ID laws. Many in her party even want convicted felons in prison to vote. Talk about misguided priorities. In effect, Pelosi is attempting to wield her self-acclaimed dictatorial powers and use Congress to retain Democratic control. The American people cannot and will not be fooled by this overt political and unconstitutional stunt."
