Murphy Condemns AOC Tweet Calling for Trump Supporters to Be Blacklisted

November 10, 2020

Greenville, N.C. – Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released the following statement after Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) called for people associated with President Donald Trump to be blacklisted in a tweet.

"The principles of unity are first and foremost after an election. No matter who wins the presidential election, it is our duty to support them by hoping for the best and praying for them.

"The fact that this far-left radical wants to put people on lists is unAmerican and flies in the face of our Constitutional rights. It is reminiscent of darker times in fascist and communist governments. As Americans we are guaranteed the rights to freedom of speech and religion in the First Amendment. We as Americans have the fundamental right to believe as we wish to believe and not fear reprisal. This is a direct attack on the foundation of our democracy. I strongly condemn these deeply divisive words," said Murphy.
